We’ve seen a lot of cheap smartphones pop up lately, and it appears this trend isn’t going away just yet. Just last month, Xiaomi released a $250 phone to go against the iPhone X. Then there’s also the recently unveiled Huawei Honor 10 which goes for $475. But no matter how affordable these phones may be, none of them could ever beat the price of Alcatel’s 3V. It will only sell for $150, and it comes with a dual camera.
Honestly, we don’t know if 3V camera’s quality is going to be good. Nonetheless, it’s quite refreshing to see a cheap smartphone featuring a dual camera (which only high-end smartphones usually have). 3V’s set-up comprises a 12MP camera combined with a second 2MP camera to create bokeh. It may not have an optical zoom function, but at least it lets you blur out the background when shooting portraits.
Apart from the camera, the 3V boasts a 6-inch display capable of playing 2K high-resolution video. We expect it to be good considering that Alcatel is owned by TV manufacturer TCL. Despite being a budget phone, the 3V also includes security features usually found in more expensive phones. It even has a finger and face scanner to allow you to unlock your phone effortlessly. Let’s just hope they work properly because otherwise, it could be a big issue for users down the line. And although the phone is mostly plastic, it has a shiny back that reminds me of the Honor 10‘s Aurora glass body. It doesn’t look like a cheap smartphone at all, at least from afar.
According to The Verge, the 3V will be available on Amazon next week and will hit the shelves of Best Buy and Walmart, soon. Unlocked versions will also be available on AT & T and T-Mobile.
So, does the 3V interest you, or would you still opt for $1,000+ phones?
