Have you ever sat in a hot tub in Iceland and thought to yourself, “Wow, I really feel like watching a movie right now with a premium camera brand projector”? If so, you’re in luck, because Leica has come through for you and launched its Cine Compact 1, a 4K portable cine projector that you can use anywhere.

The compact unit combines a triple RGB laser light source, Leica’s Summicron zoom lens, and a built-in 360-degree gimbal stand that allows it to project onto walls or ceilings from a variety of positions. With support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, built-in streaming apps, and automatic image correction, Leica is positioning the Cine Compact 1 as an all-in-one entertainment device that can be set up with minimal fuss.

A Portable 4K Triple-Laser Projector

The Cine Compact 1 delivers a native 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 and uses a triple RGB laser light source rated for up to 25,000 hours of operation. Brightness is rated at 1,700 ANSI lumens, making it suitable for a range of viewing environments, particularly in darker rooms.

Leica has paired the projector with a Summicron zoom lens and its own Leica Image Optimisation (LIO) processing system. Leica says this combination is designed to deliver high-contrast images with accurate colour reproduction and fine detail.

The 360° Gimbal Stand Is the Main Attraction

Perhaps the most unusual feature is the integrated 360-degree gimbal stand. Rather than relying on ceiling mounts or carefully positioned shelves, the Cine Compact 1 can be rotated to project onto walls, ceilings, or angled surfaces from a variety of locations within a room.

The approach is clearly aimed at making projection more flexible and portable, allowing users to move the projector between rooms without having to completely rethink the setup each time.

Automatic Setup and Image Correction

To make relocation easier, the Cine Compact 1 includes autofocus, automatic keystone correction, intelligent screen framing, and automatic image alignment.

According to Leica, the projector can automatically adjust itself to fit the projection area, reducing the need for manual corrections. Combined with the zoom lens, this should make setup considerably quicker than many traditional projectors.

Built-In Streaming and Smart Features

The projector runs the VIDAA operating system, giving users direct access to streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video without requiring an external streaming device.

Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Apple AirPlay support, while voice control is also available through the built-in software platform.

Audio, Connectivity, and Accessories

For audio, the Cine Compact 1 includes dual 10W speakers with support for Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS Virtual processing.

Connectivity options include HDMI 2.1 and USB-A 3.0 alongside the wireless features. Leica also includes a lightweight transport case made from recyclable EPP material, reinforcing the projector’s portable design.
