Leica M10-R announced: 40MP sensor made for shooting in low light

Leica has just announced a new digital rangefinder camera. It’s a new and improved version of the Leica M10-R, featuring a 40 MP full-frame color sensor and increased low-light capabilities. Let’s dive in and see what the new camera offers and what you get for the money.

The Leica M10-R is a sibling of the Leica M10 Monochrom, and they both match in resolution. However, the new model promises improved performance, especially when it comes to ISO and dynamic range. The sensor pairs with the Maestro II image processor to deliver a wider dynamic range than the predecessors. The M10-R features an ISO 100-50000 range, promising low noise even at high ISO values. It also features an extended shutter speed range for making long exposures up to 16 minutes.

Leica promises a near-silent mechanical shutter “for inconspicuous shooting.” the camera is also slim and compact, durable, and weather-sealed, so I believe that it would be ideal for street photographers. On the minus side (but standard for this line), it only has manual focus and it doesn’t shoot video, only stills.
