Canon has announced the EOS M6 Mark II, a new member of the mirrorless M family. A leaked promo video has recently revealed some of the major specs, but the camera is now officially out, and it brings some improvements over its older version, the M6.
The Canon EOS M6 Mk II packs a 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 8 imaging processor. For comparison, the M6 from 2017 has a 24MP sensor, so we can say there’s quite a notable difference in the megapixel count. The sensor and image processor promise high image quality and fast performance throughout the camera system. This includes the ability to shoot continuously at up to 14 fps with AF/AE tracking, which is double the M6’s speed.
Another major improvement over the M6 is 4K video. The Canon EOS Mark II shoots UHD 4K video at 30fps or high-speed Full HD 1080p video at 120 fps.
When it comes to autofocus, the camera features the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system with 5481 selectable autofocus points. It also supports Eye AF Servo for portrait shooting. When recording video, you can use a Movie Servo AF mode. With this mode, Canon promises smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene. It also gives you the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Raw Burst Mode of the M6 Mark II offers a 30-fps shooting rate with pre-shooting, which is one of the features we could see in the leaked promo. Electronic shutter function permits working with shutter speeds up to 1/16000s.
As for other features, the camera has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It packs a 3.0″ touchscreen LCD, tiltable 180° upward and 45° downward. Finally, it’s compatible with optional shoe-mounted EVF-DC2 auxiliary EVF. When working with the EVF-DC2, you can use Touch & Drag AF.
