Fireworks can be spectacular to watch, and they make a beautiful photographic subject. But have you ever seen it from above? What about in reverse? Filmmaker Zui Tao took his drone up to the sky and filmed fireworks from a perspective we don’t get to see when we watch from the ground. For extra trippy effect, he played the video in reverse, and the result is truly captivating.

As Tao writes in the description, this video was shot in Yunnan, China. He used a DJI Phantom 4 Pro to shoot the video and played it in reverse in post. It’s interesting how a simple change like that can make the video so interesting and mesmerizing. With the right music, the final result is almost hypnotic.

I really like fireworks, but I have to admit I was never fascinated by videos of it, it’s just not the same. However, this video changed my point of view (quite literally), and I watched it all the way to the end. Three times. I hope you’ll enjoy it too.
