Tamron is expanding its 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD to Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts. It’s giving APS-C shooters access to a lens that Sony and Fujifilm users have been enjoying for years. It’s a fast, versatile standard zoom that punches well above the kit lens category, and for run-and-gun photographers, hobbyists, or hybrid creators, it might become the main part of your kit.
The headline feature is the constant f/2.8 aperture maintained across the entire zoom range. Paired with Tamron’s VC (vibration compensation) system, this lens is built for handheld shooting in less-than-ideal lighting conditions.
The zoom range translates to roughly 27–112mm full-frame equivalent focal length, covering everything from moderate wide-angle to relatively solid telephoto reach. A lens like this is something I’d personally find useful for concert photography. But whether you’re shooting street, events, portraits, or concerts, this lens sounds promising.
