First images leak of upcoming non-Pro DJI Mini 3 drone show no obstacle avoidance sensors

Just over a week ago, word came that DJI had registered an upcoming cut-down DJI Mini 3 non-Pro version with the FCC. Now, we’re getting our first proper look at the drone according to reliable DJI leaker, DealsDrone, on Twitter.

From looking at the images, the design looks like a bit of a cross between the DJI Mini 2 and the more recent DJI Mini 3 Pro. But it’s pretty clear that the obstacle avoidance sensors are gone, bringing it more in line with the Mini 2, but with the Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro having similar capabilities already, aside from the obstacle avoidance, how is this not just a slightly redesigned Mini 2?

A non-pro version of the DJI Mini 3 has shown up in the FCC database

It looks like there might be a lower-level DJI Mini 3 coming as a new listing for a non-pro model has shown up in the FCC database. Exactly what compromises might be made compared to the DJI Mini 3 Pro announced in May are unknown. But it’s not outside the realm of possibility, especially with the recent release of the cut-down DJI Mavic 3 Classic just three weeks ago.

According to DroneDJ, there isn’t a lot of information in the filing. It does mention that the DJI Mini 3 will be powered by a 2S 7.38v battery, although the capacity is not mentioned. We don’t know what the camera will be like, either. Will the non-Pro mini even carry the obstacle avoidance that brought DJI back in line with the likes of the Autel Evo Nano (review here)? Only time will really tell.

Nikon’s high resolution Z8 reportedly “production-ready” but parts shortage delays release until 2023

The hypothetical Nikon Z8 has been rumoured for a long time. Way back in September 2019, we were already seeing leaks and reports about Nikon working on a 60-megapixel camera that was expected to be the Nikon Z8. Many of us expected to have been released by now, but it hasn’t. It seems that Nikon hasn’t been sitting on its laurels, though. Oh no. In fact, the latest word is that the Z8 is “finalized/production-ready”.

It seems that the Nikon Z8 is actually ready to go and the only thing holding it back is the ongoing silicon shortage. It’s still expected to contain a 60-70(ish) megapixel sensor, and is expected to go head-to-head with the recently announced Sony A7R V in terms of target audience. It will be a high-resolution camera targeted towards landscapes, fine art portraits, and other photography where resolution is important.

Pentax’s prediction of users flocking back to DSLRs within a couple of years of mirrorless hype hasn’t really happened. But true to their word, it looks like Pentax really is sticking with DSLRs. New photos, along with prices of an upcoming Pentax KF have leaked online. It appears to be very similar in design to the Pentax K-70 DSLR released in 2016 – a midrange APS-C DSLR with a 24.2MP sensor.

There are no specs available for the new camera yet, although photos show that it will be available in three colours. There’s the standard black, along with two limited edition versions in Crystal White and Crystal Blue – each limited to 700 units.

Canon’s last remaining EOS M camera – the EOS M50 Mark II – is discontinued in Japan

It looks like the Canon EOS M system’s death knell is ringing loud and clear. After discontinuing the Canon EOS M200 only last week, the final remaining camera in the EOS M lineup is also on its way out. It appears that the Canon EOS M50 Mark II, released only in 2020, has now been partially discontinued at Canon Japan.

Asobinet reports that the Canon Kiss M2 (that’s what Canon Japan calls the EOS M50 Mark II) body-only kit is now listed as discontinued on Canon Japan’s website. They say that the two kits containing lenses have not yet been discontinued. As of right now, though, Canon’s online store also lists the Kiss M2 and EF-M 15-45mm IS STM kit lens package is also discontinued.

There aren’t too many third-party autofocus lenses on the market for Nikon Z mount. In fact, the only two that springs to mind are Yongnuo’s 85mm f/1.8 DF DSM and Tamron’s 70-200mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD, both released earlier this year. Now, Yongnuo’s about to release another one. A teaser posted to Yongnuo’s Facebook page, hints at an upcoming Yongnuo 35mm f/2Z DF DSM lens being released soon. Perhaps even later today.

There isn’t a lot of information in the image. There’s a diagram showing the focal length, maximum aperture and dimensions, but that’s pretty much it. It’s interesting to see Yongnuo pushing ahead with autofocus Z mount lenses, though, when almost nobody else is.

Rumor has it that Canon is killing off its EOS M lineup, and this has been going around for a while. After all, the company already discontinued the EOS M6 Mark II without announcing the successor. As the latest addition to the rumor, it appears that Canon has now killed the EOS M200 as well, and now only the EOS M50 Mark II remains.

The official announcement from OM Digital Solutions is expected tomorrow, during the OM System Plaza. As tends to happen, though, photos and specs of the new camera have leaked a little early. It’s the second new OM camera from OM Digital Solutions since completing its acquisition of Olympus in January 2021. And it looks like it won’t disappoint.

It’s said to be coming at a price lower than the recently released OM System OM-1 and will feature a 20.37-megapixel sensor with 121 AF points, 4K 30fps video, IP53 dust and splashproof weather resistance, live composite mode, 7.5 stops of image stabilisation and all of the usual features you’d expect from a camera brought to you by the brand formerly known as Olympus.

Leica is reissuing the Leica M6 35mm film camera on October 20th with a €4,800 price tag

The Leica M6 film camera is one of the most collectable and sought-after film cameras out there on the used market. They’re not that expensive, either, regularly selling for around €3,000-3,500 or so. But if you want one brand new with a full warranty, then you’ll soon be able to do exactly that. Leica is apparently planning to reissue the Leica M6 rangefinder and it’s rumoured to be announced on October 20th.

Unlike most camera companies, Leica didn’t really stop making film cameras and you can still buy new ones today. The Leica MP, for example, a fully mechanical version of the Leica M7, can be yours for $5,695. But the M6 is one that’s thought of quite fondly amongst Leica shooters. If you want one, you’ll have to be quick, though. It’s rumoured that it’s going to be a limited edition run of only 500 cameras.

DJI files with the FCC for a cut-down “Mavic 3 Classic” drone with just a single camera

It looks like being added to yet another blacklist isn’t deterring DJI from working in the USA. As DroneDJ reports, a new paper filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) presents a new drone that will be joining their Mavic 3 product line. It’s called the Mavic 3 Classic and as the name suggests, seems to be reminiscent of, well, the older Mavic models. They’ve filed for a Class II permissive change with the FCC which essentially means it will have modifications to the Mavic 3 to dumb it down a little from its original filing.

The new Mavic 3 Classic, DJI says in the filing, will essentially sport the same construction as the original Mavic 3 drone announced in November 2021. It will have all of the same mechanics and electronics with the exception that it will feature just one camera instead of two, dropping the telephoto camera.
