Sigma full frame lenses

Sigma is wrapping up a fantastic summer by introducing a fresh set of lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras. They’ve unveiled a new cine zoom lens with autofocus, two improved Art prime lenses, and a highly adaptable Contemporary zoom. These latest Sony E-mount and L-mount offerings might be the perfect solution for missing pieces in your camera gear.

A New Cine Lens With AF? Meet the 28-45mm T2 AF

28-45mm T2 AF Cine Zoom

First, you have the 28-45mm T2 AF Cine Zoom. This lens is significant because it’s reportedly Sigma’s first cine lens to feature autofocus. If you create videos and want a lens that offers excellent cine quality and the ease of autofocus, this could be the right choice. Sigma says they designed this lens based on their well-known 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art lens, promising the same high image quality and attractive bokeh, but in a cinema-specific design.

What excites me most is the autofocus aspect. The lens incorporates what they refer to as a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) for focusing. Anyone who has tried to keep a moving subject in focus knows how challenging that can be. Sigma claims this system provides advanced tracking abilities, which could change the game for video makers. The lens is tailored for filmmakers, featuring a clickless aperture ring and a focus ring with limited rotation for better precision. It looks like Sigma is trying to connect the worlds of photography and videography.

It is expected to be available in November for $3,399.00.

The New 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art Lens

35mm f/1.2 DG II Art lens

The 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art lens is an exciting upgrade for photographers who appreciate a quick prime lens. This new version follows the 2019 model and, according to Sigma, enhances the original’s already impressive optical quality. The best part? They’ve managed to make it even more compact. While the first 35mm f/1.2 was quite large, this updated model is nearly an inch shorter and about 30% lighter, which makes a big difference when you’re out with your gear all day.

The 35mm focal length at f/1.2 is popular for a good reason. It lets you capture stunning environmental portraits with your subject in sharp focus while the background blurs out beautifully. Sigma mentions adding more lens elements in this version, which should improve image quality and clarity. If you enjoy that shallow depth of field effect, this lens is a great choice. It’s perfect for street photography, portraits, and much more.

It will be available soon by the end of September for $1,549.00.

An All-New 135mm f/1.4 DG Art Portrait Monster

135mm f/1.4 DG Art

Another exciting addition to the Art lens lineup is the new 135mm f/1.4 DG Art. This lens really caught my eye. Sigma claims it’s the first lens to feature autofocus at such a wide f/1.4 aperture. They even go so far as to say that its bokeh is better than their famous “Bokeh Master” 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM lens. That’s a bold statement, and I’m eager to see how this lens performs.

As a portrait photographer, having a 135mm lens is essential, and this one looks like it could be outstanding. The combination of its focal length and f/1.4 aperture allows for an incredibly shallow depth of field. Your subject will stand out against a soft, circular bokeh created by its 13-blade diaphragm. Sigma believes this lens will be the best in the 135mm prime category, and honestly, they might just be right.

You can preorder it for $1,899.00.

A Versatile Sigma Contemporary Zoom: 20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DG

20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Contemporary lens

Finally, you have a new option for maximum versatility: the 20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Contemporary lens. If you’re fed up with carrying multiple lenses for different scenarios, this could be your ideal solution. It boasts an impressive 10x zoom range while remaining compact and lightweight.

This lens is designed to serve as a complete package. It’s just over 4.5 inches in length and weighs only 1.2 pounds. Plus, it has a special feature: within the 28-85mm range, it can reach a maximum magnification of 1:2, perfect for capturing half-macro shots. The minimum focusing distance is also notable, making it perfect for all-day use, whether you’re traveling or simply capturing daily moments.

It will be available by the end of September. You can preorder it for $999.00.

Sigma full frame lenses come equipped with Sigma’s HLA motors, ensuring quick, quiet, and precise autofocus. They’re built tough, with dust and splash resistance. It’s evident that Sigma is paying attention to the needs of photographers and filmmakers, offering fresh and innovative options that could simplify our work. Now, it’s up to you to choose which one to add to your gear.
