Are we too old to play with toys? Not necessarily. When you are an adult, you can still find pleasure in playing with toys and create whole new worlds with them. And this is exactly what photographer Péter Csákvári does. He uses mini figurines to create dioramas and capture his own imaginary worlds in a series of photographs called Tiny Wasteland. He combines the figurines with the real-life objects to create funny, weird, dark and even slightly NSFW images of miniature worlds.
In 2016, Peter lived on Herm, a small island in the English channel. Because of the horrible weather, he spent most of his time at home. This made him wish he could be a child again, so he could play with toys. But then he realized – why the heck not? Photography is definitely a great excuse to play with toys, so Peter ordered some mini figurines and began creating his tiny worlds.
As a photographer, naturally, it was his task to take a photo of every diorama he created. He used a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 macro lens. The ideas kept on coming, and suddenly – the bad weather was no longer a problem. And instead of being bored at home, Peter used up rainy days to the max. Take a look at some of his photos:
I enjoyed Peter’s project and diving into his imaginary world. He has some weird and dark ideas, which I personally like a lot. Tiny Wasteland is a nice reminder that you’re never too old to feel like a child and let your imagination go crazy. And it’s a great idea for spending these cold winter days, too.
