The Lexar 8TB ARMOR 700 Portable SSD and the 2TB SILVER PLUS microSD Card empower creators to capture, store, and transfer massive 4K and 8K content

High-resolution video, 8K workflows, and massive file sizes continue to push storage to its limits, and Lexar is leaning into that demand with two headline products at NAB 2026

The company unveiled the 8TB ARMOR 700 Portable SSD and previewed a 2TB SILVER PLUS microSD card, both aimed at creators working with large 4K and 8K content

These features, high-capacity storage and fast transfer speeds, define the direction of modern production workflows where data management is becoming just as critical as capture.

8TB Portable SSD Built For Field Work

The ARMOR 700 Portable SSD is designed for creators who need both speed and durability on location. It offers up to 8TB of storage and maximum read and write speeds of 2000MB per second.

That level of performance is intended to handle large video files, including high bitrate 4K and 8K footage, without slowing down transfers or editing workflows.

Lexar also emphasizes physical reliability. The drive carries an IP66 rating for resistance to dust and water and is built to survive drops of up to three meters.

For photographers and videographers working outdoors or traveling frequently, this type of rugged design addresses a common concern around portable storage.

The SSD is compatible across multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android devices, and newer iPhone models. It is available with a listed price of $1,399 USD.

2TB MicroSD Pushes Capacity Limits

Alongside the SSD, Lexar previewed what it describes as the fastest 2TB microSD card in its class. The SILVER PLUS microSDXC card reaches read speeds of up to 255MB per second and write speeds of up to 180MB per second.

These speeds are aimed at uninterrupted 4K recording and faster offloading when paired with compatible readers.

A 2TB microSD card is notable because it expands the practical limits of small form factor storage. Devices like action cameras, drones, and handheld gaming systems increasingly rely on microSD cards, and higher capacities reduce the need to swap cards during long shoots.

However, this model is not expected to be available until 2027, which highlights how cutting-edge capacities often take time to reach the market.

Storage Demand Meets Industry Constraints

These announcements arrive at a time when storage supply and pricing remain under pressure.

Sony recently suspended orders for several CFexpress and SD memory cards due to semiconductor shortages and supply constraints. This move highlighted the fact that demand continues to outpace supply, particularly for high-performance memory used in imaging workflows.

ProGrade Digital also increased its prices across the industry. The company said that flash memory costs are increasing due to demand from AI data centers, and that price pressure is expected to continue through 2026.

Memory cards laid out on a table.

These conditions affect not just manufacturers but also photographers and videographers who rely on consistent access to storage media.

Lexar’s Push

Lexar’s push toward higher capacities reflects a clear trend. Cameras are capturing more data than ever, and workflows are becoming more storage intensive from capture to backup.

An 8TB portable SSD can hold multiple projects at once, reducing the need for constant data management in the field. A 2TB microSD card can extend recording time significantly for devices that rely on compact storage.

At the same time, supply challenges and rising costs mean that access to these tools is not guaranteed to remain stable. For creators, storage is now a core part of the production pipeline, and changes in availability or pricing can directly affect how and when you shoot.
