DJI Mic Mini

DJI is dipping deeper into the realm of content creator audio with the new DJI Mic Mini. This compact, wireless microphone system promises high-quality audio capture, ultra-long battery life, and robust transmission – all for a starting price of $89.

With its minimal weight of just 10 grams and broad mounting options, the DJI Mic Mini is designed to cater to creators on the go. It comes hot on the heels of the recent Rode Wireless Micro ($149) announcement, but this looks even smaller.

DJI Mic Mini – Compact Design, Big Potential

Weighing less than half of the DJI Mic 2, the Mic Mini is very discreet and lightweight. Its portability offers multiple wear options. You’ve got clip-on, magnetic attachment, or lanyard use. This ensures users can maintain a clean look in front of the camera.

For noisy environments, the Mic Mini offers two levels of noise cancellation. It can handle indoors with ambient fans just fine. But it also mananges just as well outdoors, too. Users can adjust the microphone to reduce background noise and prioritise clear vocals. A windscreen further improves performance by eliminating clipping when shooting outdoors.

The microphone comes with a small charging case. This stores and powers two transmitters, a receiver, adapters, and windscreens. A fully charged case supports up to 48 hours of recording. This makes it ideal for long-form content creation such as podcasts or live streams.

If you’re a travel vlogger, this means you can go away for a couple of days or more at a time without worrying about power. Even if you accidentally leave it turned on, you’ll still have plenty of charge left.

Features for Versatile Audio Capture

Despite its small size, the Mic Mini delivers impressive sound quality through omnidirectional recording. Dual-channel recording enables audio capture from two sources. You get options for recording separate tracks or merging them into one. A handy safety track option records at a lower volume to prevent distortion.

Creators will also appreciate its automatic limiting feature. This stops the audio from getting too loud and prevents clipping when the wearer gets a little too excited. The receiver’s gain dial for quick audio adjustments will also be very welcome.

Transmission distance and stability remain strong points for DJI. The DJI Mic Mini boasts an audio range of up to 400 meters. And they say it’ll do it even in environments prone to interference. I find that a little difficult to believe without caveats, but I’d love to be proven wrong.

Seamless Integration with DJI and Smartphones

The DJI Mic Mini is built on DJI’s OsmoAudio™ technology. This means it integrates directly with devices like the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Pocket 3, and even DJI Neo drones. This reduces or eliminates the need for a microphone receiver.

It also connects via Bluetooth to smartphones for easy recording. USB-C charging allows the mic and smartphone to charge simultaneously during use. For mirrorless cameras, you’ll need the standard 3.5mm TRS cable. But then you can still keep your receiver charged up through USB-C while it’s on top of your camera.

Pricing and Availability

Available starting today, the DJI Mic Mini comes in two configurations. There’s a single user 1 TX + 1 RX kit for $89, which includes a single transmitter, receiver, windscreens and a compact carrying pouch. There’s also a two user 2 TX + 1 RX kit Case for $169, which adds a second transmitter and a charging case for extended use.
