AstrHori has just announced its newest ultra-wide lens, and it’s definitely one for those who like to bend reality a little. The new AstrHori 6 mm f/2.8 Fisheye for Nikon Z is a full-frame, manual-focus lens that pushes the boundaries of what you can fit into a single frame. With a 220° circular field of view, this little lens warps reality in the best possible way. And it costs just shy of $300.
Circular Madness on Full Frame
As you probably know, this isn’t AstrHori’s first dive into fisheye territory. Earlier this year, the company launched the AstrHori 6.5mm f/2 for APS-C mirrorless cameras. But while that lens had a 192° field of view and cropped coverage, the new 6 mm f/2.8 goes even further, and it was made for full-frame shooters.
What you get is a completely circular image with black borders. It features a 220° viewing angle that captures not just what’s in front of you, but a healthy slice of what’s off to the sides. It’s not subtle, and it’s definitely not for everyone. But if you’re chasing something different, this lens delivers that in spades. And just like the 6.5mm f/2, I totally see it used for punk and hardcore concerts in small venues.
AstrHori 6 mm f/2.8 Fisheye Build
With 10 optical elements in 8 groups, the AstrHori 6 mm f/2.8 aims for more than just distortion. The company also promises decent optical performance, especially considering its compact size and manual focus nature. The f/2.8 aperture helps with low-light shooting and makes this lens surprisingly viable for night photography or even astrophotography. And did I mention concerts?
The lens also has a pretty close focus. With a minimum distance of just 3.15 inches (that’s 8cm), you can go full-on funhouse mirror with extreme close-ups.

Pricing and Availability
If you’re looking to experiment with fisheye lenses, AstrHori could be a great choice. Their lenses are affordable so it won’t hurt your wallet much if you invest in one, even if you realize the fisheye look isn’t your cup of tea. The only downsides of the 6 mm f/2.8 are manual focus only (hence the low price), and the fact that you can only get this lens for Nikon Z. Well, at least for now. So, if you shoot a mirrorless Nikon, you can pick up your AstrHori 6 mm f/2.8 Fisheye for $299.
