We’re now only days away from the official announcement of Canon EOS 6D Mark II. It’s planned to replace the 6D, and new information and rumors keep coming up. The latest information is about the price, and it seems that 6D Mk II will cost $100 less than its predecessor did when it was first launched.
According to Canon Rumors, the price fo the body in the US will be $1999. Other than the price, it’s confirmed that all 45 AF points will be cross-type, and that the camera will have only one SD card slot.
Here are the specs, as announced on Canon Rumors:
- 26mp CMOS Sensor
- DPAF
- DIGIC 7
- 1080P 60p (sadly, no 4K)
- 45pt AF all cross-type
- Single SD card slot
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- NFC
- 3″ Vari-Angle LCD
- Touchscreen
- Approx 100% viewfinder
- HDR Movie
- Time Lapse Movie
- A slightly taller and deeper body over the current EOS 6D.
- New battery grip BG-E21
The official announcement is expected to come this June, and now we have the exact date: it’s June 29. As for the shipping, it should start in early August this year. After the first information about the specs, I believe the price was what we were all interested to hear. So is it fair? Would you upgrade your gear with this camera?

Single SD card slot. ??♂️
Why oh why ???
They just lost their wedding photographer market right there.
No, really, they are not. Wedding photographers who are not idiots will buy either the 5DMk3, which is now the same price as the propose 6DMk2, or they will get the 5DMk4, or equivalent Nikon.
its canon doing stuff like this which is why i moved over to sony. been with canon all my life. loved my 6d. why do canon give out drip drops worth of upgrades come on canon give somthing to go wow about. 5dmk3 is still the best all rounder for me. more dynamic range to
Remind me which Sony DSLR gives you full frame, dual SD and UHD for $2000? oh yeah, none of them. Which is why you dont get these features with Canon at this price point.
Just because they’re coming out with something new doesn’t mean it is going to be better and it also doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy it…there’s always the 5D III or IV or the existing 6D.
new does normally relate to better. when you go to a mk2 or mk3 or even a mk4 it should be better.
I was surprised at this too. Nikon are offering dual SD card slots along a lot of their gear these days.
I’ve shot with Canon DSLRs throughout all of my digital photography days. I was excited to see what the new model would be like, after my 6D died. A lot of pro-photographer mates all shoot Nikon and Sony. I’ve jumped ship to Nikon, and definitely glad I didn’t wait for the new 6D mk2.
Ahmet Khan Tunçkaya
:D if it hasnt got dual sd i belive ill be getting 5d mk iii
Single card slot, no 100% viewfinder, larger and heavier
And your photos will still be shit.
If its single sd… Throw the 6d down the well.
Along with your shitty photos
I’d give up the flip screen for dual cards
I can accept not having a flip screen but not having the ability to back up whilst shooting is abit scary mate
Cameras with 1/3 price has dual sd slots :(
And no full frame.
tbh id rather get the em1 mkii over the specs for this camera
I need one :O
Lol, this was hilarious!
They just killed that camera for wedding photographers with the 1 card slot.
Yes, because all wedding photographers use amateur equipment. No, if you are semi pro, use the 5D.
Well… Yeah now you will because this is crippled. Not sure if you are trying to make the same point or not.
I love the low light capability of my 6D, but why bother with the upgrade if it doesn’t have dual card slots? Will have to go for one of the 5d’s.
Yeah, because your 6D has dual slots right? (no)
Why bother with the upgrade?
New sensor
45 Af points all crosspoint
DPAF
To name a few.
1080P 60 fps lol. fk off canon
For REAL. Canon is going to lose my business on this one. No 4k? They’re releasing cameras that can’t compete anymore because they are afraid of cannibalizing their higher end cameras. No one is going to by brand new hardware that has outdated features.
no $2000 DSLR offers UHD recording. Take your business to Go Pro you fuckwit
Its a DSLR, no DSLR costing $2000 gives you UHD. Leave your bedroom for 10 minutes, live in the real world and then work out how much of a cunt your are.
What a lovely comment. We are all very happy to have you here!! Get yourself a video camera.
The 6D is five years old. I’m hoping they’ve got a few more surprises up their sleeves come the reveal.
Typical from Canon, makes me regretting ever buying their products…
Yes, buying the best products in the world is such a bummer, worse still, being a prick who cant use them is even worse, your shit.
Hahaha and you insult me for stating my opinion??, what a piece of art you are. Enjoy yourself!!!
Your opinion was idiotic. You regret buying equipment from the best DSLR manufacturer in the world!
Also, your regret was not based on what you have bought, on a product that has not been released yet, that you can not have based an ‘opinion’ on as it is yet unreleased.
If you want sensible replies, make sensible posts.
So you are the sheriff around here????, I apologize to you then…hahahaha
By insulting people you are wrong in so many ways, AND no one dares to descend to your level.
OMG I just wanted time replying to you twice!!!
And you still didn’t address your original, unwarranted post. Guess you really can’t justify what you said, figures.
So you can justify yourself??!!
I refuse my right to justify my opinion to you, mr. sheriff.
You want a justification, you learn to be a decent person first.
You refuse to justify yourself because you are an idiot, with not clue about the DSLR market, where the value propositions lie, or what an entry level camera is.
You rant on like your an expert, yet your initial post reveals that you know fuck all. A keyboard warrior with no money, no knowledge, no expertise.
A wannabe that wants it all for 50 bucks.
You are one of life’s failures, never fully understanding his surroundings, never quite in control.
I see your type every day, and to be hones, although you bore more, I wallow in my ultimate superiority.
And your replies (or lack of them) do prove that you are indeed, shit.
Don’t bother replying, I wont read or respond.
How much do I owe you for giving me such a valuable lesson oh wise sheriff…people like you is what makes the internet so enlightening.
Thank you for your wisdom, and please continue on your journey, spreading your superior knowledge.
WHAT A CLOWN!!!!!!!!!
Crazy Wild Wolf really should be institutionalized before he hurts someone.
The sheriff no. He’s the town idiot.
Canon (and others) I think simply have too many variations in their models. The newest of the lower end FF/prosumer camera have less features than that of the lowest crop/consumer side.
I suppose the argument could be made it’s needed depending on what your shooting film vs video…But I don’t think any one user fits into that either/or dichotomy. Photographers are not longer just photographers, and videographers are no longer just videographers. Hopefully in the future, Canon (and others) will realize that.
Canon (and others) I think simply have too many variations in their models. The newest of the lower end FF/prosumer camera have less features than that of the lowest crop/consumer side.
No, they have Full Frame, that is the biggest feature.
If you want a great fully featured crop body, buy the 7DMk2 for half the price. If Full Frame is what you want/need, this is the lowest price option available.
I get the preference to dual card-slot… but I haven’t had an SD card fail in at least 5 years. 45 x-type DPAF should be excellent and a significant upgrade over the 6D and even the 5DIII. If you want a modern Canon full-frame, this is significantly cheaper that a 5DIV but should be very comparable, image quality-wise. I’ll give up dual-card and 4K for 12-1500 less than the 5DIV.
Good point.
I agree
Agreed. Plus DPAF will be a major upgrade.
Seriously something is not right with Canon and Nikon!
Wow you are such an expert, which DSLR manufacturer do you work for again?
Seems to fit right in the price range for basic FF. Fair enough I suppose.
Agreed. Thank you for understanding this is an entry level body, with entry level features.
How many frames per second? Don’t see that mentioned anywhere.
Its not been announced. It will be less than the 5DMk4 (which is 6 or 7). I would get 4.5 or 5.
I love my 6D – it is awesome! It does everything I need it do (and then some) It will still be awesome when the mk2 comes out…and continue to be awesome when the next over hyped whizzbang ‘upgrade’ comes out…. I will keep it and enjoy shooting with it commercially and for fun – I’ll leave needless upgrades to those who think that a ‘better’ camera will make them ‘better’ photographers…oh and have the money to spare! I look forward to buying your used gear for next to nowt on MPB – cheers! ?
If I had waited for this “upgrade“ I’d be sorely disappointed.
I want this now
And every thing is fine but an extra card would be better since this is not the final specifications may be we get to see in final product
Im not going to pretend that I’m happy with this, BUT, I have the 6D and I think that this new model makes sense. The 6D is the prosumer model. Great quality without all the professional features. It will make an incredible second body but I’d probably just stick with the 6DI.
I WILL say that the 5D IV should have had usable and practical 4k. And if not that, then more. Bigger sensor, more card slots, more something. If canon wants their pro DSLR’s to remain still-based, INNOVATE SOMETHING FOR STILLS GOD-DAMIT.
Canon is making it hard to stay, but I shot with a Sony last weekend for a wedding and I’m still happy with the 6d.
Confusion continues.
Do you know how it should affect the price of 6d?
Canon may bring the price down for new Body’s of the 6D, but they will also stop producing them short after if not immediately upon the release of the Mark II. There will be, however, tons of people selling their 6D bodies to trade up, so getting one used will probably be easy and cheap.
A bit disappointed by the lack of a second SD slot (would have traded the touchscreen for that honestly).
Don’t care at all about the 4K vid missing.
Glad about the higher resolution / new sensor and DPAF, can’t wait to see if the dynamic range will be better (hopefully), see if I trade my good old 6D to go for Nikon or not.
Canon’s sensor are beautiful I don’t think you’d want to move to nikon. I’ve changed from nikon to sony to canon. Although nikon uses sony sensors and they are very sharp, they just don’t have the same feeling canon sensors give the photos. My 2 cents.
Well, I think this is an eternal debate ;). There are so many factors to take into account to have a pic looking ‘sharp’ (including lenses, ur capacity to stand still, the light, the way the focus is handled by the camera, hell even probably your own eye perception of things). I guess that maybe the famous Dxo tests are one way to bench it within the same conditions (and on that game Canon seems a bit late, even if the 5D mark IV has done a pretty good job on the testings). I’m happy with my 6D, I think I get decent shots with it (*warning, self-ad* my last one here : http://www.okinson.com/Portraits-1/i-6msJfSg/A */end of warning*); but when I look at pics from collegues with about the same skills (hardly measurable I know I know…), it seems like there’s more ‘depth’ in the colors. Not sure how I can express it really, but I get the same feeling when looking at pics from the 7Rii from Sony for instance.
For me, I am excited. I have no problem with one card slot, or no 4K, I do travel photography and landscape.
Does anyone know how much the original 6D will go down by?
I am excited about the impending release of this camera. Not concerned about lack of 4K as I don’t really shoot video nor am I concerned about the lack of 2nd card slot. This is after all an entry level FF camera and with what is likely to be a great sensor.
I need to decide if I want the 5Dmk3 or the 6Dmk2. I am more a travel/ landscapes photographer (also like shooting at airshows) therefore I like the WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS features built in and probably what is going to sway me more towards this camera than the 5D (the 5Dmk4 which has some of these features is just too expensive for my budget). Also pleased to see the upgraded 45 point cross type AF which will be better for shooting at airshows.
Guess what I am upgrading from! Canon 50D so you can imagine the step up I’m going to experience in any case! I also have a Sony 7 – nice camera but really just doesn’t quite compare to a DSLR in my experience especially that little fact that I like shooting at airshows and the Sony just isn’t up to that task!
The 1 card slot is not a deal breaker, great to have the rotating screen, better focus points, and the new sensor. I expect it will do very well on the market.
It is for some jobs, weddings being the first that come to mind, photojournalism, basically anything where if you can’t go back and retake the shots. Cards do corrupt, and I’ve had it happen at weddings, if I didn’t have a backup card in my camera I would have been up shit creek.
To me the “missing” 4k vid doesn’t do anything to the camera as such. If you want to make videos get a video camera. Its nice to have a photo camera with excellent video capabilities, as far as focusing is concerned, better than any other Camera in the market. Its hard to believe that there are such a lot of amateurs that have to show their ” technical knowledge” on these forums by complaining what the camera does not have or lacks. Mostly its just bragging of what they have or perceive to have. Using skill and knowledge about photography has been mostly replaced by techno-talk.
