If you frequently find yourself needing to power some of your gear while on the go, you know what a pain it can be to make sure you have a way to keep everything powered up when you have no electricity to plug into. Of course, there a plethora of solutions to mobile power stations, but a lot of them are costly and/or excessively bulky. These handy little Power Pods from Indi Pro Tools, may be exactly what you need, especially if you already have some extra Canon LP-E6 batteries laying around. You can power all your gear using one of these adapters and your spare LP-E6’s.
The Power Pods come four different ways:
- Dual LP-E6 Universal Power System 14.4V
- Dual LP-E6 Universal Power System 7.2V
- Quad LP-E6 Universal Power System 7.2V (uses a minimum of 2 batteries; max. 4 batteries)*
- Quad LP-E6 Universal Power System 14.4V (uses a minimum of 2 batteries; max. 4 batteries)*
*The Quad system will allow you to power 2 different devices at once, assuming you have four batteries attached to it.
There are a lot of different cable adapaters for the Power Pods allowing you to power just about anything you can think of (from mini USB devices like a GoPro, lights, monitors, DSLRs, mirrorless, pretty much anything all the way up to your 4K cinema cameras). Some cables have a regulator that stops the power down to smaller voltages when necessary. All the cables attach to the pods via a 2.5mm DC outputs.
Check out the video for more info:
Prices for the Power Pods start at about $95 and go up to about $115, depending on which model you want. You can head over to the IndiPro Tools website or Amazon to browse through the selection of Pods and cables.

Given how absurdly expensive camera battery packs are, this seems like an expensive way to do things. You are much better off getting a cheaper Anker Li-Ion battery pack if you need to operate things. The thing itself is stupidly expensive (>$100) and it doesn’t even come with any batteries! It would end up costing you over $300 to get 4 batteries into the thing to end up with a 3600mAh 14v battery.
Much better off getting a dedicated battery that does the same thing for under 100, and getting a more sensible charger for Canon batteries.
better option is to use cheap 18650 batteries, instead expensive canon one…
Atomos have had something similar for quite a while – http://www.atomos.com/power-station/
