The world of fungi is not only mysterious and magical but also essential for life on Earth. Fantastic Fungi is a movie that shows all this beauty and importance. Its trailer is just out, and it really got me interested. But more than that, it’s filled with jaw-dropping growth timelapse of fungi that make even the trailer itself pretty enjoyable to watch.

Fantastic Fungi was directed by Louie Schwartzberg. It explores the underground network of fungi mycelium that can heal and save our planet in a number of ways. Scientists, mycologists, and authors tell us the story about this hidden, magical, and intelligent world of fungi that could change the world for the better.

There’s so much we can thank fungi for. The mycelium that goes underground is useful for all kinds of animals and plants. Then, there are also numerous medications based on fungi, penicillin being the most famous and the oldest one. Of course, there are also mushrooms that enable us to make all kinds of tasty dishes, as well as those used to create vegan faux leather for shoes and clothes. Finally, there are also hallucinogenic mushrooms that are used for therapeutic purposes.

“When so many are struggling for connection, inspiration, and hope, Fantastic Fungi brings us together as interconnected creators of our world,” the movie description reads. You can rent it or buy it on several platforms, including Netflix – so I know what I‘m choosing for my movie night tonight. Let me know if you watch it, I’m eager to hear your impressions. In the meantime, enjoy this mushroom growth timelapse, too.
