The Nikon D6 will make its UK debut at The Photography Show

Even though there’s been no official announcement on the specs for the Nikon D6 (it’s expected at some point this month), Digital Camera World reports that the Nikon D6 will be on show in the UK during The Photography Show taking place on the 14-17th March at the Birmingham NEC in England.

They say that Nikon has announced this, but I haven’t been able to find a press release. But DCW is owned by Future Plc., which is the same company that runs The Photography Show. So, if anybody would know if this was true or not, it’s them!

The Nikon D6 was first mentioned by Nikon in a development announcement back in September 2019. Since then, though, Nikon has remained surprisingly quiet about it. I expected them to at least tease a few details about it after Canon had announced their 1DX Mark III (and every bit of info about that is out now), but nope, nothing.

But the most recently rumoured specs look a little something like this.

  • Built-in sensor stabilization (IBIS) – An improved version from the Nikon Z system
  • More features and customization options for various aspects of the camera and settings
  • Mobile applications will see improvements but they will likely launch after the camera release
  • The D6 will definitely not be a “hybrid” camera, but a DSLR with some mirrorless features
  • 24 MP sensor
  • 4K 60 video
  • Improved dynamic range
  • Improved/better AF system but probably with the same number of AF points
  • Advanced video features with raw recording
  • Longer manual exposure times: 1/8000 – 120 seconds (up from 30 seconds)
  • Dual CFexpress memory card slots
  • .76-78x 100% viewfinder
  • New dual Expeed processors
  • Built-in WiFi
  • 3.2m-dot touchscreen LCD
  • Improved silent shooting modes

Word is that we can expect an announcement at some point this month, and DCW’s report that the D6 will be at TPS seems to confirm that. Perhaps it’ll be at CP+ in Japan at the end of this month, or maybe it will be sooner, in order to prevent having to compete with the rest of the announcements expected at the show.

It’s also entirely possible, however, that Nikon will make the announcement at TPS and that its appearance there will be its world debut. There isn’t usually a lot announced at TPS, so it’s possible that they can launch the camera there with very little competition for attention.

Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but at least now we know the very last date that the D6 could possibly be announced (assuming everything stays on schedule). March 14th, 2020.
