The new Sony a7R III was announced yesterday and it has introduced some improvements over its predecessor, the a7R II. One of the improvements is 10fps continuous shooting, which doubles the speed of the previous model. Guys from DPReview have published a demo, demonstrating what the new mirrorless camera from Sony is capable of. They’ve tested the continuous shooting, as well as the Eye AF, which also seems to be pretty impressive.
Olympus just announced two super fast f/1.2 Pro lenses for Micro Four Thirds
Micro Four Thirds has been getting some love the last couple of days. First we have Sigma’s new 16mm f/1.4 announcement yesterday. Today Olympus are raising the bar with a pair of super fast f/1.2 Pro primes.
First up, the M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.2 PRO, that might attract a few higher end MFT shooters over Sigma’s 16mm. Firmly aimed at portrait shooters, the second lens is the M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.2 PRO.
Sony A7RIII is a 42.4MP 10fps speed demon with dual card slots
Two years after launching Sony a7R II, the new upgrade has arrived. Sony has launched their a7R III, a pretty impressive full-frame mirrorless camera packed in a compact body. While it features lots of the same features as its predecessor, there are some improvements involved, such as two times faster continuous shooting. What stays unchanged is the price: it’s $3,200, like the a7R II when it was first announced.
Sigma’s new 16mm f/1.4 DC DN lens for mirrorless cameras is now here and official
As yesterday’s leaked photos show, Sigma are indeed bringing us a new lens for mirrorless users. Now, though, it’s not a leak or rumour any more, though. Today, Sigma have officially announced their new 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens for mirrorless cameras. Specifically, that means Sony and Micro Four Thirds photographers – sorry Fuji shooters.
Sigma boast that this is the world’s first interchangeable lens for Sony mirrorless APS-C cameras which offers a 24mm full frame equivalent field of view at such a wide aperture. For Micro Four Thirds users, that’s a 32mm full frame equivalent field of view. Even with the 2x crop, though, it’s a lens micro four thirds shooters will have been waiting for.
Images leaked of new Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens
Well, Sigma said they’d be announcing a new lens at this year’s PhotoPlus Expo, which is about to begin in New York. A couple of days ahead of the show, though, it looks like images of the surprise lens announcement have already been leaked. According to these images, that lens is the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary.
Given the DN lens abbreviation, it looks like this will be available for Micro Four Thirds and probably Sony. On something like a Sony A6500, this would offer the field of view of a 24mm lens on a full frame body. On Micro Four Thirds, a field of view equivalent to 32mm on full frame. With an f/1.4 aperture, it should still provide plenty enough shallow depth of field.
Irix expands its product range with a new 100mm filter holder for wide angle lenses
Irix, the Swiss lens manufacturers are branching out into new products besides lenses. The natural extension to lenses is filters. While Irix lenses do come with rear filter holders, you often need them on the front. Things like polarisers and graduated NDs are impossible to work with when sandwiched between the lens and body. So, to tackle this issue, Irix have today announced a new 100mm filter holder system.
The Irix IFH-100 is a dedicated adapter designed to hold 100mm wide filters. The filter is made of aluminium alloy, allowing for a compact size with a lot of strength. The front side of the filter is also lined with light absorbing fabric to prevent internal reflections. Irix have also announced a range of 100mm filters to go along with the new holder.
