Sigma Corporation has made an announcement that will make all Lightroom users thrilled. Their new Sigma SD Quattro H is available for sale, and it comes with improvements that will finally let photographers edit RAW files in Lightroom.
Sigma SD Quattro H was announced along with the Sigma SD Quattro. The reason for this is to give Sigma shootets a chance to choose and not waste money on SD Quattro only to be disappointed when the SD H comes along.
The new camera it is compatible with DNG format, so you can edit the images with software other than Sigma’s. If you are thinking of buying a Sigma camera and you don’t want to give up editing in Lightroom, this may be the solution.
As DIYP reported earlier, the Sigma SD Quattro H features a Foveon X3 direct image sensor with 51-megapixel- equivalent resolution. This gives you higher resolution and better image quality. It is compatible with all Sigma Global Vision lenses in the Contemporary, Art and Sports lines.
If you are devoted to Sigma’s editing software, they plan to update Sigma Photo Pro 6.5 and Sigma Capture Pro 1.3 along with the release of Sigma SD Quattro H. The new versions will enable tethered shooting and utilize the computer’s GPU for faster processing. But those who prefer Lightroom or other editing software can now use it together with Sigma camera.
Sigma really seems to be expanding their views and offer their users higher versatility. They have already gone a long way and became a brand many photographers trust. I believe this move may bring them even more users.
Are you a sigma shooter? Will this make you jump over to Sigma if not? Do you prefer their software or rather use Lightroom? Do you think this will bring Sigma more users? Let us know what you think in the comments.
