There’s a reason the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards keeps growing its audience year after year – it’s one of the few photography contests on earth where the more undignified the subject looks, the better your chances. The 2025 People’s Choice winner has been announce, and it’s one of those photos that visually describes how I go through life.
Alison Tuck, based in the UK, takes the Sterna People’s Choice Award for her image Now where is my nest? It’s a brilliantly timed shot of a northern gannet that clearly has more questions than answers (boy, do I relate!). Alison took the photo at Bempton Cliffs in Yorkshire on a particularly blustery day. An onshore wind had closed off the boat option, but as Alison describes it, the wind actually worked in her favor. It pushed the gannets up and over the cliffs, giving her an unexpectedly generous window for close-up shots as the birds went about collecting grass for their nests. One of those birds, it turns out, was destined to be a prize-winning model.
For the win, Alison receives a photography bag from ThinkTank and a large-format fine art print of her image. It’s printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl paper, courtesy of category sponsor STERNA.
The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards have been celebrating the funnier side of nature photography since 2015. Founded by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam with a serious mission behind the laughs – raising awareness for wildlife conservation through humor. The contest draws tens of thousands of entries from around the world each year and has become one of the most-loved wildlife photography competitions going.
In case you missed it, the main category winners and the overall winner were announced back in December. However, Sterna People’s Choice Award gives the shortlisted images some time to go to a public vote, which is why we see the 2025 results in the spring of 2026.
The 2026 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards is currently open for entries, both photos and videos, through June 30. It’s free to enter from anywhere in the world, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or a hobbyist. The overall winner takes home a week-long safari in the Masai Mara with Alex Walker’s Serian.
So, if you think you have a fitting image, you can submit it and make the rest of us giggle. And for inspo and giggles, here are a few more finalists that were a part of the 2025 People’s Choice contest. I don’t know about you, but I sure could use some laughter.
Enjoy!
