If you hang out on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed a flood of 2021 recaps expressed through music on Spotify. Well, Instagram was quick to come up with its own version, so now you can see the 2021 Playback as told by your Instagram Stories.
Basically, Playback lets you create a collection of Stories from 2021 so you can share the most important ones again. By leveraging Stories Archive, you can customize and select up to ten stories to share with your community.
Launching today on @instagram, Playback is a way for people to use their Stories to look back at 2021 and celebrate, just before the new year.

On the other hand, Spotify’s Wrapped feature has been around for about ten days now, if I remember well. It’s really fun, showing your “musical aura,” top albums, genres, songs, and artists you listened to, and more. What’s more, it quickly found its way to Instagram and Facebook, shared by equally musicians and their listeners.
I spotted the new feature on Instagram this morning, offering me to recap my 2021. I clicked on it, and I was like: “What the hell?” There were only three totally random Stories so I gave up. And now, I have no idea how to access it again. I tried through Story archive but there was only an option to share one story from this time last year. Oh well.
As always, I’m not surprised that Instagram made its own version of something that was launched first and stole the spotlight. Spotify’s “Wrapped” has been all over the web lately, so Instagram had to find a way to be in the center of attention again. But on the other hand, Facebook has had a similar feature for ages, so this might have been already planned, only Spotify launched its feature earlier. Either way, I still prefer Wrapped and find it more fun. What about you?
