Instagram now puts ads even on your Explore page

I believe we’ve all noticed how many ads there are on Instagram. Although they’re already all over the place, there are going to be even more of them. Instagram has announced that it’s soon going to put ads on your Explore page, too.

The Verge reports that the ads won’t appear on the Explore grid itself. Instead, you’ll see them once you tap on an Explore post and begins scrolling through that discovery feed. The ads will be both photos and videos, just like they are in your Instagram Feed and in Stories. Over the next few months, Instagram will make Explore ads available to everyone.

Susan Buckner Rose, director of business product marketing, told The Verge that Instagram team considers “the mindset where people are most receptive to advertising.” She believes that the Explore page is an obvious choice because it’s where “people come to discover new accounts or people or brands that they don’t already follow.” If it’s an obvious place to put the ads, what has kept Instagram from doing it so far? Well, Buckner Rose says that it was “nothing particular,” so it remains a mystery why Instagram hasn’t done it before.

Personally, ads are one of the main reasons why I don’t hang out on Instagram. It already seems like I see more of them than the posts from the people I follow. I already have the feeling that they are everywhere, and there’s gonna be even more of them. I realize that Instagram makes money from ads, but I think this is just over the top. What do you think of this move from Instagram?
