Starting with just a concept and some sketches, Nace condenses the process into a 10-minute long video clip that’s packed with handy tips, tricks, and lighting advice to give us insights as to what all goes into making these high quality portraits. In A Nutshell
- Before You Start, Get Organized – Sketch your concept on piece of paper to give you a tangible idea that you can use to build your concept upon and help others visual your concept.
- Use tear sheets from magazines or source sample images from the internet that are similar to what you are trying to accomplish. When searching for helpful reference images, look for things like lighting styles, clothing, composition, and editing that appeal to you.
- Prepping For The Shoot – If you want professional looking results, you need take your time to prepare for the shoot. Consult with hair and makeup pros and source several different wardrobes to make sure you have the perfect one.
- Lighting Is Everything – The setup Nace uses looks intimidating, but, as he suggests, take it one step at a time. Start with your most essential lights on your subject, then piece together other lighting elements as needed.
