Canon pokes fun at Nikon’s photo competition blunder with cheeky social media post

Nikon-Fake

Someone in Canon Canada’s PR department is about to get a substantial raise.

Last week, we shared with you the disaster of a PR move that was Nikon’s attempt for a photography competition. For those that missed it, the winning photo, which was of an airplane perfectly composed within the leading lines of a ladder, was found out to be a blatant editing job that seemed just too good to be true, despite the photographer’s claim that the image was captured with a fair bit of ‘luck.’

Eventually, both Nikon and the photographer stepped up and apologized for the incident, but not before an entire collection of memes were created, poking fun at the composition job.

Cleverly, someone at Canon Canada’s marketing department thought to capitalize on the faux pas by sharing a post on Facebook that asks Canon users to ‘share your best airplane photos with [them]’, with ‘extra points for creative use of photo editing software to put planes in surprising places.’

Up in the air! This week, share your best airplane photos with us. Extra points for creative use of photo editing software to put planes in surprising places.

Unsurprisingly, commenters had a little fun with the challenge, with a handful of entries poking fun at Nikon’s competition. Below are just a few of the funnier ones in the post’s comment section:
