As initially reported here, GoPro has taken a major leap into professional filmmaking with the introduction of its new MISSION 1 camera line, a series of compact cinema cameras designed for creators, filmmakers, and enthusiasts seeking high-end performance in a portable form.

The lineup includes three models—MISSION 1, MISSION 1 Pro, and MISSION 1 Pro ILS—each built to deliver advanced imaging capabilities traditionally reserved for much larger systems.

At the core of the new series is a powerful combination of a 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor and GoPro’s GP3 processor. This pairing enables exceptional image quality, improved low-light performance, and up to 14 stops of dynamic range, allowing users to capture highly detailed footage in challenging lighting conditions.

The MISSION 1 line stands out with its ability to shoot up to 8K video, with the Pro models reaching 8K at 60 frames per second. It also supports “Open Gate” recording, which captures the full sensor in a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving creators greater flexibility to crop footage for different platforms like social media or widescreen formats.

Mission…Ready

For professionals, the MISSION 1 Pro ILS introduces interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses, marking GoPro’s entry into mirrorless-style filmmaking. Combined with features like 10-bit color, high bitrates, and advanced slow-motion options up to 960 fps, the system caters to demanding production workflows.

Despite its powerful specs, the series maintains GoPro’s signature durability, offering rugged, compact designs with long battery life and enhanced thermal performance. Overall, the MISSION 1 lineup represents GoPro’s bold move into the premium cinema camera market, expanding creative possibilities for users at every level.

There is no mention of pricing or release date, yet. But we’ll keep you posted!

Enjoy.

Update May 22, 2026: All cameras from the MISSION 1 lineup are now available for preorders, priced at $599.99 for the MISSION 1 and $599.99 for the MISSION 1 PRO and MISSION 1 PRO ILS. The cameras will start shipping on May 28.
