Leica Camera AG has unveiled a new flagship store in Chicago, marking a significant expansion of its global retail and cultural footprint.

Located on Michigan Avenue in the city’s historic Gold Coast, the 5,000-square-foot space is designed as more than a traditional retail outlet. Dubbed a hybrid destination where it will be blending photography, design, and community engagement.

Opening officially on April 30, 2026, the store reflects Leica’s broader vision of creating immersive environments where customers can explore both products and the art of photography. The two-level space includes a gallery featuring rotating exhibitions, areas for hands-on workshops through the Leica Akademie, and a full retail offering spanning cameras, lenses, and accessories.

The Chicago flagship also celebrates two major milestones for the brand: 20 years of Leica retail stores and 50 years of Leica Galleries worldwide. These galleries have long positioned photography as both an artistic and cultural medium, hosting roughly 150 exhibitions annually.

Building on Leica’s Success

Architecturally, the store pays homage to Chicago’s design heritage. Its restored façade and interior draw inspiration from figures like Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan, combining Art Deco elements with Leica’s minimalist aesthetic.

To commemorate the opening, Leica will release a limited-edition “Chicago Edition 17” camera, exclusive to the store. Programming for the launch includes exhibitions, artist talks, and community events, reinforcing the space as a cultural hub where storytelling, craftsmanship, and innovation converge.
