What do you do when you can’t use a simple ladder to retrieve a stranded drone? Well, you can use another drone. In this video, you can watch a DJI Inspire 2 perform an epic Phantom 4 rescue thanks to Carlos Sandoval and a great team of pilots.
The Phantom 4 had been stranded on top of the Estela de Luz (Stele of Light) monument in Mexico. Considering that it’s 341 ft (104m) tall, there was no simple way of getting it back. And believe it or not, it had been stuck up there for two years, surviving scorching sun, pouring rain, hail, wind, even a Sahara dust storm!
But Carlos and the guys figured out that they could get it back. After a week of planning and preparation, they got on to work to get the Phantom 4 back. The setup was pretty simple: another drone (Inspire 2) and a rope with a hook. Nevertheless, after four attempts, they did it – they attached the stranded Phantom 4 to the Inspire 2 and safely landed it. And you know what’s even better? The Phantom 4 worked even after two years of being stuck in the worst possible conditions!
You can check out the highlights of the rescue in the TikTok video from csdrones. This one is in Spanish, but you can see the video with English subtitles here.
