Voigtländer SUPER NOKTON 29mm f/0.8 Aspherical lens has officially been announced. This super-fast lens will be available in MFT mount, and it offers 58mm equivalent focal length. The wide aperture is ideal for shooting in low light conditions, but it also gives you a very pleasing bokeh. So, let’s jump in and see what the new Voigtländer lens offers.

The SUPER NOKTON 29mm f/0.8 Aspherical lens comes with the stepless aperture switching mechanism. So, it should be useful for video as well as for photography. It’s built from 11 elements in 7 groups, and the manufacturer promises high image quality even at the widest possible aperture. The aperture is built from 12 diaphragm blades and produces, in my opinion, a truly pleasing bokeh. Judging from sample images, it looks like this is a very promising lens.

Here are the full specs:

  • Focal length: 29mm
  • Caliber ratio: 1: 0.8
  • Minimum aperture: F16
  • Lens configuration: 11 elements in 7 groups
  • Angle of view: 42.75 °
  • Number of diaphragm blades: 12
  • Shortest shooting distance: 0.37m
  • Maximum shooting magnification: 1:10
  • Maximum diameter x total length: φ72.3 × 88.9mm
  • Filter size: φ62mm
  • Weight: 703g
  • Lens hood: Attached
  • Others: With aperture switching mechanism

The retail price of Voigtländer SUPER NOKTON 29mm f/0.8 Aspherical lens will be ¥ 225,000, which is around $2,150 USD. The lens will start selling on 10 December, so stay tuned for updates about the exact price, shipping date, and links.

Update 23 November 2020: the Voigtländer SUPER NOKTON 29mm f/0.8 Aspherical lens is now available for preorders, and you can get it for $1,799.
