Viltrox has just dropped its new flagship for Nikon Z shooters: the AF 35mm F1.2 LAB. This is a big deal for the company because it’s yet another of its fast F1.2 primes, but even more so because this lens marks the final piece in one of the most complete third-party lens ecosystems for the Nikon Z mount.
A Timely Release
The Viltrox AF 35mm F1.2 LAB Z lands just as photographers and filmmakers start reassessing gear ahead of the new year. It’s a fast prime, sure, but it’s also one of the very few autofocus F1.2 lenses available for Nikon Z. It offers cinematic depth, creamy bokeh, and serious low-light capabilities.
The optical formula includes 15 elements in 10 groups, with 5 ED, 3 HR, and 2 aspherical elements. All that glass promises sharpness, accurate color, and clean rendering across the frame. Viltrox’s Quad HyperVCM motor handles autofocus, delivering fast, accurate, and quiet focusing. As you can imagine, this is crucial when you’re on a film set or at a quiet ceremony.

A Milestone for Viltrox and Nikon Z Shooters
For Nikon Z users as well as for Viltrox, this is a big milestone. The company now has a complete autofocus lineup that spans everything from affordable APS-C primes to professional full-frame tools. From travel-ready compacts to workhorse portrait lenses, there’s a Viltrox Z-mount lens for just about every scenario.

Pricing And Availability
The Viltrox AF 35mm F1.2 LAB Z is priced at $999 and is available now. For a lens this fast, I suppose I can say it’s affordable. For comparison, the native Nikon 35mm f/1.2 lens for Z-mount costs $2,596.95 even with the holiday discount. Without it, it’s nearly three times more expensive than its Viltrox counterpart. So, if you’re looking for a good, yet not overpriced, fast 35mm lens, I believe this one from Viltrox is worth considering.
