It looks like AI is everywhere now: we create and edit images with its help, we write with AI tools, and even have video chats with artificial humans. AI could also be coming to TikTok soon, helping you spend even more time on the platform. In a recent announcement, TikTok revealed that it’s testing a chatbot that will help you find the content you like.

In a recent tweet, TikTok explained that it’s still in the early stages of exploring chatbot tools. For now, there’s a limited test of the new AI chatbot named Tako, available for select users in the Philippines. “Tako is powered by a third-party chat assistant and is designed to help make it easier to discover entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok,” the announcement reads.

TechCrunch reports that Tako will appear on the right-hand side of the TikTok interface, above your profile and the buttons for likes, comments, and bookmarks. Once you tap it, you’ll be able to ask Tako various questions about the video you’re watching. If you stumble upon a video of King Charles’ coronation, for example, you can ask Tako about the significance of the event, using your natural language. Alternatively, you can ask Tako to recommend some new content for you by describing what you want to watch.
TikTok notes that, for now, there are no plans for Tako beyond these early tests. However, they’re collecting the users’ feedback, and the test might become a feature for all of us.
