Instagram joins the chatbot frenzy, tests its own chatbot

Look who’s trying to stay relevant again by copying features from other apps. You guessed it, it’s Instagram. This time, Meta is testing a chatbot for its “photo” app. Yup, just like the one on Snapchat and the one TikTok is currently testing. Coincidence?

The info comes from the developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. He spotted the option to”chat with AI” on Instagram and shared a screenshot on Twitter. He says that “AI Agents” will be able to answer your questions and give advice, and you’ll be able to choose from 30 different personalities.

#Instagram is working on bringing AI Agents (Bots 🤖) to your chats for a more fun and engaging experience 👀

Although there is no official announcement from Meta regarding the new feature, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a chatbot on Instagram or other Meta apps. In February, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Meta was creating “developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.” He added that the company was exploring how to incorporate bots into text conversations “like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger.”

There’s no word from Meta about these bots on Instagram, though. However, I think we have two solid clues that it’s about to happen. First, Paluzzi successfully discovered many new Instagram features ahead of the launch. And second, Instagram’s competitors have chatbots, and we know what Instagram does when another app adds a new feature that turns out to be popular.
