Tamron's Popular 18-300mm

After teasing it earlier this year, Tamron has announced that their popular 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A2 VC VXD all-in-one zoom lens is ready for Nikon Z-mount and Canon RF-mount cameras. This is fantastic news, especially if you are eager to buy this versatile lens. Tamron originally launched this lens in 2021 for Sony and Fujifilm, and it quickly gained popularity due to its wide focal range.

Your All-Day, Everywhere Lens

Tamron has created the 18-300mm lens as your all-in-one solution for almost any photography scenario. This lens offers a full-frame equivalent focal length of 27-450mm, which means you can easily switch from capturing wide-angle landscapes to zooming in on wildlife without swapping lenses. It’s an excellent option for travel photography because it keeps your gear light and easy to manage. With this lens, you’ll be able to take pictures of everything with just one lens. I believe this lens could be revolutionary for those of you who are fed up with carrying multiple lenses.

Key Features

Tamron has included a lot of impressive technology in this lens. It features a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for focusing, which Tamron claims allows for quick and quiet autofocus. This is particularly beneficial for video creators or anyone who wants to minimize noise while filming. Additionally, it has Tamron’s own Vibration Compensation (VC) system, which helps you achieve clear, sharp images, even when using longer focal lengths or shooting in low light.

There are some minor differences between the Canon and Nikon versions of the lens. The Canon RF-mount version is slightly smaller and lighter, and it comes with an AF/MF switch and a VC ON/OFF switch on the lens barrel. On the other hand, the Nikon Z-mount version is a bit bulkier, but both lenses can be used with Tamron’s Lens Utility software for firmware updates, which is a nice feature.

One of the standout features of this lens is its close-focus ability. At the wide end, you can get as close as 5.9 inches to your subject, achieving a 1:2 reproduction ratio. This is great for taking stunning close-up shots. Even at the telephoto end, it still provides a decent 1:4 reproduction ratio.

Built for Adventure

If you enjoy outdoor photography, you’ll be happy to know that Tamron says the 18-300mm lens is built to resist moisture and has special fluorine coatings. These coatings help keep oil and water away, allowing you to keep taking pictures even in bad weather. This sturdy design, along with its wide range of focal lengths, makes it a reliable lens for any situation. It looks like Tamron is aiming to provide a single lens that can handle nearly every type of photography.
