Sigma is taking a step into uncharted territory with the launch of the Aizu Prime Line, a series of cinema lenses that deliver an ultra-fast T1.3 aperture across the entire lineup. Marketed as the first large-format cine lens range to maintain T1.3 at all focal lengths, this isn’t just a new set of primes: it’s a statement. And quite a bold one.
Redefining Speed and Consistency
T1.3 is fast. Very fast. But what’s striking about Sigma’s approach is that this isn’t a one-off specialty prime. They are bringing this aperture across the board, from 18mm wide to 125mm telephoto. This is pretty standard for cine lenses, considering that you don’t want a lens swap to mess with the entire workflow. That uniformity makes matching exposure between shots effortless and gives cinematographers the creative freedom to push shallow depth of field effects in any scene without compromise.
The initial release includes as many as eight lenses, ranging from 25mm to 75mm. Wider and longer options, down to 18mm and up to 125mm, are in the works for future rollout.

Designed for Cinema, Not Just Adapted
Every lens in the Sigma Aizu Prime Line is purpose-built for cinema. Sigma writes that they developed the lenses “exclusively for cinema applications” instead of simply rehousing photo lenses. The Aizu primes are tailored for large-format sensors, with minimal focus breathing and distortion.
The lenses support real-time lens metadata via Cooke /i and ZEISS eXtended Data, making them a practical choice for VFX-heavy workflows as well.
The Build
Despite their large-format coverage and the hefty T1.3 spec, the Aizu Primes are relatively compact and lightweight. We’re talking around 1.6 to 1.7 kg per lens, which makes them workable even on handheld or gimbal rigs. It’s a significant advantage when mobility is key. Also, remember that uniformity in size? Working with a gimbal is also where it counts.
Mechanically, these lenses are built for precision. Long focus throws, uniform gear positions, and consistent front diameters (95mm) make life easier on set. Focus and aperture rings are smooth but firm, offering reliable tactile feedback that won’t drift mid-shot.
One Look, From Ultra-Wide to Telephoto
Sigma promises color rendition, contrast, and flare behavior all tightly controlled across the range. This means you get a consistent visual signature throughout. The image circle is 46.3mm, making these lenses suitable for full-frame and Super 35, as well as larger formats like ARRI Alexa LF Open Gate and VistaVision.

Pricing and Availability
The Sigma Aizu Prime Line will begin shipping in August 2025, with the first eight lenses priced at $8,299 USD each. They’ll be available in PL and Sony E-mount options and come with standard accessories including the Cover Cine Lens Cap LCC-95 II, Rear Cap LCR III, and Lens Support Foot SF-61.
If Sigma’s track record with stills lenses is anything to go by, the Aizu Prime Line might just become a workhorse in indie and professional cinema alike.
