Saramonic SG-Mic

If you’re looking for a tiny but powerful shotgun mic that won’t break the bank, Saramonic’s new SG-Mic might be just the thing. Weighing in at only 45g, this supercardioid microphone is designed to sit on top of your camera and quietly get the job done.

Saramonic says the SG-Mic is ideal for DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, camcorders, and recorders. SO, that’s basically anything with a 3.5mm TRS mic input. It’s also plug-and-play, drawing power directly from the camera (no batteries needed), which is a big plus for run-and-gun shooting.

Compact But Capable

The Saramonic SG-Mic covers a wide frequency range from 75Hz to 20kHz and offers -37dB sensitivity rating. It’s also no slouch when it comes to handling loud environments, with a max SPL of 125dB and a signal-to-noise ratio of 80dB.

The mic’s construction combines ABS with an aluminum alloy chassis, keeping it both lightweight and sturdy enough for regular field use. At just 138mm in length, it’s not going to block your viewfinder or throw off your camera balance.

Versatility and Extras

Saramonic includes a foam windscreen in the box, and the mic is compatible with optional furry windshields for breezier shoots. If you want to use it with your smartphone, you’ll need a TRRS adapter, which isn’t included. But hey, at least it’s possible.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t a USB or wireless mic. The SG-Mic is an analog mic designed for 3.5mm inputs. So while it’s not for mobile vloggers with just a phone and no adapters, it hits a sweet spot for camera shooters who want clean audio.
