The coronavirus outbreak caused some delays in production, but now Canon EOS R5 launch is getting closer. Judging from a recently leaked information, it will be quite expensive with the price of around $6,700.
Digital Camera World reports that the price leaked from an Australian retailer. This “mirrorless 5D equivalent” was reportedly priced at the $10,499 AUD. When converted, it’s $6,748 USD or £5,543. The EOS R5 is listed on B&H, but there’s still no price tag for the US. However, retailer usually don’t announce the prices until they get it from the manufacturer. Therefore, I guess that we can expect something around this number.
There have been different information regarding the release of the Canon EOS R5. As I mentioned, the COVID-19 pandemic caused some delays, which left Canon with two options. One: to launch the cameras as planned this summer, but in limited quantities. Or two: to postpone the launch until October 2020, but release it in higher quantity. Judging from the latest report, the company opted for the first option. It seems that the EOS R5 will be launched this June and this is when we’ll hopefully know more.

In Canadian dollars after Ontario taxes, that’s a $10,700 camera.
The cost of a base model Chevrolet spark.
Philip La Lumiere or a 1 DX MK III
Or 14 and a half years of going to Tim Hortons for a large coffee every day
Or FIVE BILLION Lollypops!
Roughly 9000 tacos at tabo bell
LOL the same site has a $200 pricepoint! STOP bullshitting
SRP will be 4500$ max!
With (mostly) better specs than the 1dx Mark iii? Really?
That’s probably a holding price tag til the product is released and then they will lower the price. That practise is quite common. So you shouldn’t even consider to believe this.
I believe it’s mandatory to make another high megapixel R5(f) for photography oriented people with 3500$ 5d.ish price
And modest video features.
That will likely happen.
They fixed it already, it’s not going to be $300 above the 1-series?
Maybe photog will start invoicing with better rate. (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`)
good thing photogs can quickly make that money back! wait…
How much money are you making as a photographer to justify this much for a camera body when there are so many cheaper cameras that will do the job.
The 1dx Mark iii sells at $6,999.00 and it doesn’t have the specs of this camera. It will sell just fine to its intended target. For the rest of us, there will be the R6, which is looking pretty good. I will be very interested in the low light capabilities and dr of the R6.
I think you made his point. Canons over priced while other manufacturers are devouring what little share canon has left in the market with much more competitive prices and features.
Absolute nonsense. It will be ~$4000
Surely a bargain for 8k nobody needs! Don’t forget to upgrade your computer!
Panasonic will sell a lot of S1 series if this is true
I could see around 4000$
Why? The 1dx Markiii has 5.5k full frame video, IBIS, 20fps max and a 20 megapixel sensor. It lists for $6,999.00. Why do you think Canon would sell you a camera with 8k video, 4k 120 fps video, IBIS, 20fps max. and a 45 megapixel sensor for half that price? Think about it!
8k is not cheap so not surprising :).
:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Good luck with that Canon…
Tudor Pantelimonescu welcome 1dx mk 2 second hand…
even 1dx mk 3
They knew they HAD to do something big and bold because they had very clearly falling far back from the pack. This was a move they had to make and they made it just in time!
Almost twice as expensive as the Sony a7RIV. It better have some compelling features.
Great Price. I wonder what Apple will do next gen?
HAHAHAHAH, I knew it. Same as always. And there will still be people who buy it, which gives the green light to Canon to keep charging these prices. Now waiting for Canon fanboys to smack down my comment.
Same as always! Canon isn’t giving me something for nothing! Better specs than the 1dx Mark iii! Can’t figure out why it isn’t half the price?!
I’ll take two
This camera has more bells and whistles (except slightly fewer fps mechanical) than the recently released flagship1dx Mark iii, which has a 20 megapixel sensor and 5.5k video and sells for $6,999.00, yet somehow people are surprised to find that Canon may be asking a similar price for it! 45 megapixel, 8k full frame video, 4k 120 fps video, the same 20 fps electronic shutter for stills……but hey, give it to me for half the price! Get real!
If it came with a 28-70 then I’d jump =) but I’ll just wait for the 6
Count me out if this is even close. I could care less about the video features so that’s not a draw. Maybe you can release a stills-only R5-V without video capabilities, knock about $3K off that price and we’ll talk.
This was confirmed to be a mistake. The R5 price has not been released by Cannon but most informed sources are saying it will be around $3,500
