A possible replacement for Nikon D810: Nikon D820 with 46MP

It has been speculated for a while now what could come as a replacement of Nikon D810. One of the possible scenarios is that it might be Nikon D820. It could be the latest upgrade to its predecessor Nikon D800. And one of the most prominent features of this camera could be the 46MP sensor.

Let me remind you, Nikon D810 features a 36.3 megapixel, full-frame sensor. One of the upgrades we could expect in the D820 is a 46MP sensor. This is all that’s being rumored for now about the improvements of the new Nikon camera. Still, I do hope they’ll improve their features further. For instance, they could make up for what they missed in the D810 and make the new camera allow 4K shooting. Just a suggestion.

For now, this is just a speculation. However, CP+ photography show in Japan is approaching, and Nikon is preparing their booth. So, from February 23 to 26, we will certainly know more and hear new announcements from Nikon.

“For instance, they could make up for what they missed in the D810 and make the new camera allow 4K shooting. Just a suggestion.” …When the D810 was released, 4K video was NOT a feature that any pro grade DSLR offered.

If you need 4K and think a stills camera with an ‘add-on’ feature like video is a good compromise, your wrong. Rent/buy a video camera, and do it right. Just to be clear, GH4/5, Sony’s and the like are in fact the 21st century’s ‘handy-cam’ equivalents with an added stills mode, made to appeal to amateurs who like to believe mirrorless is cutting edge technology, it’s not.

You don’t do this for a living do you ? I am sure not.

36.3 megapixels is more than enough, what I would really like:

    Fully Articulated Screen
    Built-in GPS

    Built-in Wireless

Nikon uses Sony sensors. This one is a A7R sensor. I doubt, that they are able to make their own sensors with this big mpix count. I would say that the D820 will use the same sensor as in A7RII – 42mpix. Or, they could buy something from CMOSIS, but it would be a bad move for the whole Nikon -sony partnership.

Why waste the time on 4K when 8K is already being tested and will be used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?

Regarding video, they need a focusing mechanism that actually works before any continued talk about 4K, 8K or “whatever K”.

The video focusing mechanism in these Nikons is a joke. It it like it came out of a Cracker Jack Box…junk!!!

That’s because you manually focus DSLR’s…..
