If you like miniature photography, I’m sure that you’ve heard of Tatsuya Tanaka. This Japanese artist has created and photographed thousands of miniature dioramas so far. Yes, thousands, because there’s one for each day of the past nine and a half years.
Tanaka’s creativity kept blooming even in lockdown. In fact, he turned the situation into his advantage and used coronavirus-related items to create his dioramas. And so, masks, gloves, thermometers, and of course – toilet paper – have become miniature worlds that I even want to visit!
Tanaka began his project Miniature Calendar in April 2011, but you might even remember his work from DIYP, as we featured it before. I have been following him on Facebook for a while now and I enjoy his limitless imagination. Over the past few months, Tanaka would sometimes publish a miniature world created from coronavirus-related items, and it would always make me smile.
Interestingly enough, Tanaka’s dioramas made with COVID-stuff sometimes show things that I’ve missed the most during the lockdown, like traveling and beaches. There’s even a very appealing Nintendo Switch swimming pool. I’d sure love to hang out and swim here if it were real!
I sure hope that the pandemic will be a thing of the past as soon as possible. But I also hope that Tanaka will continue to create these amazing tiny worlds for years to come. Take a look at more photos below, and make sure to check out more of Tanaka’s work on his website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
