It seems that a potential Leica/Panasonic/Sigma collaboration might not be all that’s officially announced tomorrow at Photokina. It appears that Leica China has posted a photo and description of the new Leica S3 medium format camera to their website a little early.
There isn’t really any other information besides this image and the blurb beside it, which reads (Google translated)…
The outstanding performance of the entire Leica S3 system is a well-thought-out result. All of its individual components are precisely matched to achieve a harmonious interaction, creating a unique Leica feel. The Leica S3 worked closely with professional photographers during development, and with its superior image quality and flexibility, as well as simple operation and strong robustness, professionally met their special needs.
It looks pretty much just like the $19,995 Leica S (Typ 007) on the outside, but we’ve no idea what the differences will be on the inside. There’s been no word if more medium format lenses will come with the new camera. Leica currently has 16 lenses for the Leica S system.
I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what the exact specs of the Leica S3 will be. And how expensive it’ll be.
