Nikon discontinues three more F-mount lenses: 80-400mm, 12-24mm DX, 105mm Micro

Nikon seems to keep killing off its gear and accessories. Three F-mount lenses have been discontinued: Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR, 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED, and the 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED micro lens.

According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon Canada sent a notice to retailers that the three lenses are “no longer available to order.” Two of them are still listed as “in stock” on B&H, whereas the 80-400mm is listed as back-ordered.

Earlier this year, Nikon killed off the D5600, a bunch of APS-C and full-frame F-mount lenses, as well as Coolpix B600 and some accessories. I assume that the ongoing chip shortage has something to do with it. It has caused chaos in the photo industry, leaving many camera companies struggling to keep up with the demand. Apparently, the solution was to kill off some pieces of gear so that they could focus on those that are in higher demand. And considering that Nikon is focusing on the mirrorless line-up (like many other manufacturers), I’m not surprised that it’s discontinuing DSLRs, F-mount lenses, and prosumer cameras.

These three lenses still haven’t been officially listed as discontinued on Nikon’s website, but we’ll update the article when and if the company issues a statement.
