Along with the brand new Z5, Nikon has announced a new lens as well. The Nikkor Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is a tiny compact zoom made for full-frame mirrorless cameras. While it’s essentially a kit lens for the Z5, you can also get it separately, so let’s see what it has to offer.
The Nikkor Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is a standard zoom designed for FX-format Nikon Z-mount cameras. of course, you can also use it with DX models where it provides a 36-75mm equivalent focal length range. It features a retractable design and it’s slim and compact, which makes it great for travel or long photo walks.
This is an AF lens with a stepping motor, and Nikon promises quick, quiet, and precise autofocus, so you can use it for both photos and video. There’s also a programmable control ring. It’s set to adjust manual focus on default but you can also use it to control aperture or exposure compensation.
The lens features a Super Integrated Coating on its elements, which should suppress flare and ghosting. Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
The Nikkor Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is available for preorders for $396.95 and it starts shipping in August. The Nikon Z5 with this lens is available for $1,696.95.
