Every city has two lives. The one that happens while the sun is in the sky and another when it crosses the horizon for the night. This unique time-lapse by filmmaker Matel manages to capture both of these sides by combining day and night into a side-by-side time-lapse video.

Captured during a trip to London in January, Matel says the time-lapse was shot on a Sony A7RII. The resulting footage was edited in Lightroom, After Effects and premier.

One of the more challenging aspects for Matel was making sure he captured the scenes from the same spot at both night and day. To get around this problem, he noted exactly where he was standing and marked where his tripod was throughout the making of the film.

You can check out more of Matel’s work on Vimeo and Instagram.
