Leica catches up with the rest of the world – adds smartphone control

Quite a lot of news is coming from Leica ahead of Photokina 2018. Other than revealing a new medium format camera and collaboration with Panasonic and Sigma, Leica has finally decided to launch Fotos: an app that lets you control your camera with your smartphone.

As Engadget writes, the Fotos app will work with “Leica S, SL, M10, TL2, CL and other recent cameras.” As for the features, you will be able to control different shooting parameters remotely through your smartphone. For example, you’ll be able to touch to focus, transfer photos to your phone, check exposure and sharpness, and adjust different settings.

Considering that other camera brands already allow controlling your camera through a smartphone, I guess Leica is just catching up with the rest of the world. The Fotos app will work for both iOS and Android and it will be available for from 24 October 2018. However, you can sign up for early access if you want to test it out before the official release. And if you do, hurry up, because the number of people who’ll get to test it out is limited.
