Imagine this: you take a selfie, thinking you look flawless, and then realize that lighting from your ceiling fan makes your shirt look like it belongs in a horror movie. Now imagine Google steps in with something called Nano Banana and magically turns that selfie into a full-body digital version of you, ready to try on clothes without ever leaving your couch.

It might sound like a sci-fi prank, but it is very real and it could change the way you shop online.

How Nano Banana Works

Google’s new tool uses a selfie to generate a digital version of your body, even if you don’t have a full-length photo on hand. Powered by their Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, Nano Banana produces a studio-like image of you in your chosen clothing size.

Once you upload your selfie, the system generates several options. You can select the one that best represents your body to use as your default try-on photo. From there, you can virtually test clothes on this generated figure, exploring different outfits without the awkward angles or poor lighting of a traditional dressing room selfie.

This approach is particularly useful if you want to quickly see how clothing fits or looks before committing to a purchase. By simulating a realistic representation of your body, Nano Banana removes some of the guesswork that comes with online shopping.

Using the Tool

Using Google’s virtual try-on tool is straightforward. You visit the designated site, upload your selfie, and select your clothing size.

Nano Banana does the rest, generating multiple studio-like images that show your digital self. Once you pick your preferred version, you can start trying on clothes from billions of products listed on Google Shopping.

If you already have a full body photo, you still have the option to use it. The system also allows you to try outfits on a range of diverse body models, offering flexibility if you want to see how styles fit differently.

Privacy and Control

Google emphasizes that you control your images. The digital versions generated by Nano Banana are created specifically for your use and do not automatically become public. You can choose to store your generated figure as your default try-on image or start fresh anytime. While the tool relies on AI to fill in missing information from a selfie, you are the one guiding the experience, from size selection to final outfit testing.

Virtual try-on technology is evolving quickly. By allowing selfies to serve as a starting point, Google makes it easier for anyone to participate, even without full body photos or professional studio setups.

The combination of convenience, personalization, and speed could shift how people shop online, particularly for those who avoid physical stores or struggle to find flattering mirrors.

While this tool won’t replace the feel of trying on clothes in person, it offers a new level of practicality!
