If you’re thinking of buying the new Fuji GFX 50S II camera, you’re going to need a lens for it too, right? Well, Fuji thought about it and introduced yet another lens during its recent gear announcing spree. The GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 WR is a wide-angle zoom lens made for the GFX medium format system. It’s small, lightweight, and at $999, relatively affordable for a medium format lens.

The GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 WR is designed for Fuji’s G-mount GFX camera system. It’s a wide-angle zoom offering a 28-55mm equivalent focal length range. Since it covers wide-angle to normal-length perspectives, it was made with everyday shooting in mind. I wonder how many casual shooters use a medium format camera and the accompanying lenses, though. But anyway, it could be “a gateway lens” to take you into the world of the GFX System.

This lens weighs less than a pound (~400g) and has a closed length of under 3″ (~7.5cm), so its compact size and weight is the first thing you’ll notice about it. Fuji promises “incredible detail and minimal focus breathing,” so it’s also suitable for video. It’s pretty sturdy as well, resistant to dust, freezing, and moisture.

The Fuji GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 WR is available for preorders on its own at the price of $999 and is expected to start shipping on 30 November. But if you’re buying it in a bundle with the Fuji GFX 50S II, its price only comes down to $500.
