Recently, Fujifilm released its newest camera in the X-Pro lineup, the Fujifilm X-Pro 3. It offers a number of improvements over previous models, and also comes with a complete redesign that hasn’t been accepted entirely positively by everybody. But as part of Fuji’s X-Pro lineup, it’s a formidable camera. We took time to speak to Fujifilm at PhotoPlus 2019 to find out more about it.
The X-Pro 3 draws a lot of attention from the days of film, including a display on the back which shows you which film simulation you’re running which is very reminiscent of the slots found on the back of old 35mm SLRs to let you slide a piece of the film box into, so you know what was loaded.
Back then it had a very practical purpose. You needed to know what was in there and what ISO you were shooting at because you can’t change it on-the-fly for each image. These days, it’s a little more cosmetic. But it’s still a neat throwback to the days of film.
The full specs for the camera are fairly impressive, with the 26.1-megapixel BSI CMOS X-Trans sensor and processor as the Fujifilm X-T3, with no optical low-pass filter and a randomized pixel array for increased clarity and sharpness. It shoots 4K DCI 30fps video at up to 200MB/sec with 2K up to 60fps.
