Our resident “how-to” project editor, David Prochnow, lives on the Gulf Coast of the United States in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He brings his expertise at making our photography projects accessible to everyone, from a lengthy stint acting as the Contributing How-To Editor with Popular Science magazine. While you don’t have to actually build each of his projects, reading about these adventures will contribute to your continued overall appreciation of do-it-yourself photography. YAY; photographers of the world rejoice, today is National Camera Day 2025! Who started National Camera Day? Who cares (actually, there is no definitive origin or sponsor of this unique date), today is the day to grab your fave camera and start snapping.
Are you a film user or a diehard digital photographer? Do you prefer a razor-thin smartphone’s embedded camera or a hefty piece of metal and glass dangling from your neck? Is your preferred camera color, silver/chrome or black? Does your pocket carry a point-and-shoot or is an instant camera always in your hand? What kind of film do you regularly expose: 35mm, roll film, 4×5 sheet film? Are you Polaroid or Instax? What brand beats all others: Argus, Asahi, Canon, Fujifilm, Graflex, Hasselblad, Kodak, Leica, Minolta, Nikon, Panasonic, Rollei, Sony, Zeiss Ikon?
None of this matters, really, because it’s National Camera Day and every camera is welcome to the party. In honor of this hallowed date, please tell us your favorite camera in the Comments.
