Sometimes, when sorting out old crap on your hard drives, you can find a little treasure. You might remember that fireproof housing for my D800. We tested a lot on this day and some of the shots were really cool.
I’ve converted all the files to JPG without cropping them. So these files are quite high resolution and the package is over 800MB to download.
It’s all stuff from little fire, larger fire and sparkles up to “inferno”.
You can use it for composites (I’ve tried to use the great clipping mask technique from Roderiques article for a 3 minutes composing on top of this page), you can use it as backgrounds, for special effects… Or you can save it on your hard drive, as I did, and forget all about it :-)
You may also want to look into knoll unmult which is a plugin to alpha the black behind the fire too.
To get you in the right mood, I recommend to watch that video from our little “fire-inspired-photoshoot“.
The files are CC-BY, so you can use them also for commercial jobs as long as you refer to this article.
Some of these files are pretty unique because the camera was in the fire, some are a little blurry or a little overexposed. I think you can sort it our by yourself. Most of the time I am just missing this “other” file, so I wanted to make sure you have it all (well… i’ve deleted 1400 files anyways…).

Be extremely careful – this is a burning hot, dry and dusty hell, even if it’s looking so neat…
Everything inside it will instantly burn – we had water to make the pyrotecs clothing wet and he was dry after a few seconds…
BE – EXTREMELY – CAREFUL.
