Over the years some of the most enticing projects here on the blog were projects that involved combining the real with the made up. Composites showing dreamy worlds and rotting buildings. Models located inside falling castles and magicians fire fighting dragons.

In fact, we are pitched one or two compositing related projects each week. And I can see why! A composite image is that magical limbo space that lives between photography and imagination. Even if you are not going the full composite route, sometimes even just a touch of texture can take an image from good to magical.

We want the world to be able to produce better composites, and we want photographers to have the right tools to enhance their images, and so we are very proud to announce the DIYP Texture Store.

We’ve teamed up with RAWEX, A super creative team from Germany who create textures, backplates and photoshop resources, to bring this store to the world, and we hope to see this section of the blog, that deals with the post production aspect of photography grow

What can you do with the files?

Of course the main idea is that you go out and create something. Either from scratch or by adding some of the resources to your existing photos. Here are two quick samples showing the magic that can happen:

This gorgeous urban photo was composited by Reinhard Loher (who also did all the art in the lead image) using the fabric, decay archive 2 and light rays packages.

This composite was made by Sascha Reich using our milk splashes and big milk splashes packages

What kind of files are there in the store?

Well, I guess the best way to answer that question is to go and have a look, but you can look at the photos below to get an idea. There are some great textures from walls, milk splashes, dust, water and rays of light. (The list goes on and on!)

There are also some backplates taken from dilapidated buildings all over the world. Actually we have those photos from one of the world’s leading urban explorers. You can use those backplates (or backdrops) as a starting point for a photo and composite models, animals and other objects on it.

Lastly, we included Some practice files so you can see if the entire concept works for you

But it doesn’t stop there! We are currently working through our backlog and adding around a package a day (adding more decay packages, rust, snow, sand, flares, steam, bokeh bubbles and more) so do check back often.

This is a store about you

There currently have over 20 backplates, textures, brushes and practice packages on the store and we are adding new packages daily. Most of this packages were created after receiving feedback and messages from our early adoption compositors friends telling us what they needed. We’re out of our BETA phase and now we’d love to get your feedback so we can keep producing great content that you can use in your composite projects!

Do feel free to drop us a line. We also take criticism very well :) so no worries if you want us to do better, just let us know

We’ve taken a very measured approach with our pricing, first and foremost we want you to create! This is why for most packages we also offer a CC-BY licence which does not cost anything other than a little link love. Other packages have a ‘suggest a price’ feature, where you can download them for as much (or as little as you want).

Get creating! We look forward to seeing what you come up with! Please feel free to tag us on social media if you post your composites online! We’re using the hashtag #DIYPRawex and can’t wait to see yours. Hit this link to visit our webstore now.
