This guy stole an iPhone and posted a selfie to victim’s Instagram

It’s a bummer when someone steals your phone. I’ve experienced it a couple of times and the police weren’t able to do anything. But if the thieves had posted a selfie to my Instagram account, it would have been so much easier to find them. “Why would anyone do that?” you may wonder. Well, one thief did exactly this. He stole an iPhone and he was dumb enough to post a selfie to the victim’s Instagram account.

In a Facebook post, Kearny Police turned to the community to help them identify the person who had reportedly stolen the phone. “On May 16th a victim reported to the Kearny Police Department that his iPhone had been stolen. Shortly after the theft, a suspect posted the attached photograph of himself on the victim’s instagram story using the stolen device,” the post reads.

I honestly wonder how stupid you must be to steal a phone and then post a selfie to the phone owner’s Instagram account. Knowing how quickly things can go viral, I guess it won’t be long before the guy is caught. And I sure hope they catch him soon.

If you recognize the dude from the photo, you can contact the Kearny Police via email tips@kearnynjpd.org, or by calling 201-998-1313 (2833). The police department adds that all tips will remain confidential. Of course, you can also like and share their post on Facebook. Even if neither you nor your friends know the guy, at least you can have a good laugh.
