There are a lot of LED panels out there these days with no real access to add modifiers. Sure, there are some that are Bowens mount that let you use the same sorts of things you’d use with strobes, but for panels, not so much. There are also a lot of Fresnels out there, that can be a pain to attach softboxes to as well. DOP Choice’s Universal Snapbag solves that problem by attaching directly to the barndoors on the front of the light. We spoke with DOP Choice at IBC 2019 to find out more.
The Snapbag Universal, as the name suggests, is a universal modifier and it’s been designed primarily for Fresnel lights. Although, in theory, it can be used with anything that has similarly sized barndoors, which includes a lot of the strobe-style LED lights from brands like Godox and Aputure. If you use several lights with different speedring attachments, this could potentially be a good alternative to having to carry a bunch of softboxes with different mounts. With this, you can use the same one on them all, assuming they have barndoors on them.
DOP Choice says that the Universal Snapbag should fit most 5-7″ barndoors. It weighs only 1.5lbs and they will offer matching 20, 30, 40 or 50-degree SNAPGRIDs for them. Everything attaches with velcro, so they’re easy to put on and take off, but hold well once set up.
There’s no word on a price or actual release date for the Universal Snapbag yet, but keep an eye out on the DOP Choice website for more information. DOP Choice also offers softboxes for a range of specific lights from Arri, Litepanels, Kino Flor and others, too, as well as for strip lights.
