Zeiss is adding another four prime lenses to its popular cinema line. From now on, Supreme Prime Radiance Lenses will be available in 18mm, 40mm, 65m, and 135mm focal lengths, but there are also some changes and improvements aimed at making your footage even better.
Mitakon announces 17mm, 24mm and 35mm T1.0 Cine lenses for Micro Four Thirds
ZY Optics, the company behind Mitakon lenses, has released a new range of T1.0 Speedmaster Cine lenses. All three of the lenses at focal lengths of 17mm, 25mm and 35mm are available for Micro Four Thirds. The 35mm is also available in Fujifilm X, Canon RF and Sony E mount as well. Of course, it can only fill the sensor on the two latter brands if it’s Super 35mm or APS-C.
The new lenses are essentially cinema housings for their 17mm f/0.95, 25mm f/0.95 and 35mm f/0.95 photography lenses, with the features one would expect from a cine lens, like a stepless silent geared aperture ring and a smooth geared focus ring with a longer throw and precise scale markings.
Laowa finally releases their OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Zer-D cinema lens
It’s been a while since we first (and last) heard anything about Laowa’s OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 cine lens. We first found out about it early last year, and got to get our hands on one for a quick play during NAB 2019. It’s a mighty impressive lens, but it’s taken a minute for it to come to reality. And finally, it’s here.
Laowa has now officially announced their new OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 cine lens, an “all-in-one zoom lens with a blend of vintage and modern characters”, they say. It offers a 4x zoom range with a parfocal design and Super35+ coverage that lets you shoot 4K UHD on the Alexa Mini and 8K on Red Helium or 5K on Red Gemini.
Zeiss releasing three (four?) new Supreme Prime cine lenses – photos leak ahead of announcement
Photos have leaked of three new Zeiss Super Prime cine lenses ahead of an official announcement. There isn’t much information on them besides what we can see in the photos, which are the focal lengths, maximum T stop value, and a teeny tiny foot at the bottom for mounting to your tripod, rig or other lens support system.
Irix expands its Cine lens lineup with the new Irix Cine 15mm T2.6
Irix has today announced the addition of the new Irix Cine 15mm T2.6 to their cinema lens lineup. Teased a few days ago, it joins the 11mm T4.3, 45mm T1.5 and 150mm T3.0 Macro lenses in the Irix range of cinema lenses. Irix says that it’s designed for super-high-resolution 8K video, with minimal distortion, and compact and lightweight construction.
Like most cinema lenses, it features built-in toothed gears on the focus and aperture rings for use with follow focus systems and is weather sealed to stand up to a wide range of shooting environments. It’s available in several popular mounts, including Canon EF, Sony E, Micro Four Thirds and PL.
Tokina announces 25-75mm T2.9 cinema lens for Super35 cinema cameras
Tokina has just announced 25-75mm T2.9, a new cine zoom lens. It will be available in five different mounts and will nicely round up the company’s line of cinema lenses.
Can you tell the difference between a $1,500 lens and a $35,000 lens?
In the last few years, cine-grade gear is becoming more affordable. When I started shooting video, Cine PL lenses were basically a dream to rent. Let alone own. Laowa has been a key player in bridging that gap as they bring their new line of cinema lenses. They really knocked it out the park with their new Laowa 12mm t/2.9 Zero-D Cine. This video shows exactly just how well the $1500 dollar cine lens stacks up against an ARRI Ultra Prime 12mm T2.0 F Lens $35,000 lens.
Meike announces a new 35mm T2.2 Cine lens for Micro Four Thirds
Meike has announced a new 35mm T2.2 cinema lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. As a cine lens, it’s full manual focus and aperture control, with a wide aperture of T2.2 (stopping down to T22) and a fairly short minimum focus distance of only 42cm. The lens is constructed of 10 elements in 8 groups and offers a field of view equivalent of a 70mm lens on a full-frame camera.
Irix expands their cinema lens range with the 45mm T1.5 and more on the way
Irix shocked us all recently by announcing that their 45mm prime lens was going to be released as a T1.5 cinema lens first, and not the f/1.4 we’ve been expecting since Photokina 2016. Irix were at PhotoPlus 2019 this year, showing off the new Irix 45mm T1.5 prime, along with the 11mm T4.3 and 150mm T3.0 cinema lenses. So, we stopped by to take a look and chat about Irix’s plans for the future.
